Joe’s passion for the turfgrass industry started when he took a position at Kyte Monroe Sports Complex located in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Kyte Monroe, a 7-field baseball/softball complex, holds various tournaments including the CABA Great Lakes Regional Championship and AABA Wood Bat World Series. After three seasons working at Kyte Monroe, he developed an understanding of the skills needed to excel in the turfgrass industry. That led Joe to Michigan State University’s 2-year Sports and Commercial Turf program.
After his first year at MSU, Joe accepted an internship position at Fenway Park working for the Boston Red Sox. Working under Dave Mellor, Joe learned various aspects of professional field maintenance. This five-month internship created a stronger and intuitive work ethic, and a drive to continue learning about the turf industry. With the end of his last semester at Michigan State nearing, Joe decided to investigate other opportunities and decided to commit to H&K Sports Fields as a project manager overseeing various projects throughout the upper Midwest.
